Fetal Development; From conception to birth; Day 1: fertilization: all human chromosomes are present; unique human life begins. Day 6: embryo begins implantation in the uterus. Day 22: heart begins to beat with the child's own blood, often a different type than the mothers'. Week 3: By the end of third week the child's backbone spinal column and nervous system are forming. The liver, kidneys and intestines begin to take shape. Week 4: By the end of week four the child is ten thousand times larger than the fertilized egg. Week 5: Eyes, legs, and hands begin to develop. Week 6: Brain waves are detectable; mouth and lips are present; fingernails are forming. Week 7: Eyelids, and toes form, nose distinct. The baby is kicking and swimming. Week 8: Every organ is in place, bones begin to replace cartilage, and fingerprints begin to form. By the 8th week the baby can begin to hear. Weeks 9 and 10: Teeth begin to form, fingernails develop. The baby can turn his head, and frown. The baby can hiccup. Weeks 10 and 11: The baby can "breathe" amniotic fluid and urinate. Week 11 the baby can grasp objects placed in its hand; all organ systems are functioning. The baby has a skeletal structure, nerves, and circulation. Week 12: The baby has all of the parts necessary to experience pain, including nerves, spinal cord, and thalamus. Vocal cords are complete. The baby can suck its thumb. Week 14: At this age, the heart pumps several quarts of blood through the body every day. Week 15: The baby has an adult's taste buds. Month 4: Bone Marrow is now beginning to form. The heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood a day. By the end of month 4 the baby will be 8-10 inches in length and will weigh up to half a pound. Week 17: The baby can have dream (REM) sleep. Week 19: Babies can routinely be saved at 21 to 22 weeks after fertilization, and sometimes they can be saved even younger. Week 20: The earliest stage at which Partial birth abortions are performed. At 20 weeks the baby recognizes its' mothers voice. Months 5 and 6: The baby practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into its developing lungs. The baby will grasp at the umbilical cord when it feels it. Most mothers feel an increase in movement, kicking, and hiccups from the baby. Oil and sweat glands are now functioning. The baby is now twelve inches long or more, and weighs up to one and a half pounds. Months 7 through 9: Eyeteeth are present. The baby opens and closes his eyes. The baby is using four of the five senses (vision, hearing, taste, and touch.) He knows the difference between waking and sleeping, and can relate to the moods of the mother. The baby's skin begins to thicken, and a layer of fat is produced and stored beneath the skin. Antibodies are built up, and the baby's heart begins to pump 300 gallons of blood per day. Approximately one week before the birth the baby stops growing, and "drops" usually head down into the pelvic cavity. Does the "personhood" issue, though, really solve it all?
Pro-choice/pro-abort positions claim that the fetus is not a person and therefore can be killed, yet even if it's not a fetus it does not mean it ought to be killed or rights ought not to be given it. See for example the case of animal rights. They are not persons yet they have rights.

excuse me but I don't think the founding fathers had semantics on "person hood" in mind when they espoused the rights of people. You analogy is absurd. A sperm is a sperm, it will never alone become a human being. An egg is a egg and so on. once a sperm enters an egg it is instantly transformed into something greater than the sum of it's parts and is considered the beginning of human life. Personality has nothing to do with it. That is a subjective demarcation of a stage of mental devlp.

1)no would really argue the fact about the jeopardy of the mothers life being at risk.
2)Rape would not qualify for a act of volition in getting pregnant so that's not a problem.
3) That's the real issue..total reckless and irresponsible behavior, woman should consider that "what if" before they engage in the voluntary act of sex , and sex without protection that can result in a pregnancy.
That is the most outrages feature of this . Disgusting!! it's a Bogus "right" to muder

It seem today that determination of Morality is the exclusive domain of the perverts!! Maybe we should let prisoners determine what is a crime and what isn't. Woman get 3 consecutive choices in this matter. it is a unparalleled array,it's just that one of the options (infanticide) is unacceptable. Lets teach people to be a little more responsible with their activities. Like we do with other laws, say like drunk driving. we are more concerned with the potential than we are with the actual.

highwaytohell7: i respect your opinion but we all know how a human is formed and I believe that denying a fetus the right to form is denying that "potential person" the right to live. We all know a fetus is a human being, it is not some strange creature that magically turns into a human once it leaves the vagina and enters the world, and that is why i think it deserves respect from us "real humans" and we should protect is NATURAL right to life...

ahha yeah you sound like me! with the "we know it's human." I wonder they are always trying to teach kids about tolerance(to gays) and all this other social stuff. Do they ever shows kids this miraculous formation? Prob not, infanticidel maniacs would go nuts. I mean more than they already are.

have you people heard of the inalienable rights of man?!? We ALL have the right to LIFE, Liberty and the right to chase what makes up happy,unless it hurts others (see natural right 1 & 2.) And in the free world our founding fathers thought they were helping to create, no government can pass a law taking ANY of those rights from us or any group of our society no matter how small, and if they did, that law should be considered illegitimate. And a law allowing abortion should be repealed. IMO

getting pregnant usually doesn't hurt lollerskates543, if it did nobody would be having SEX! yeah, giving birth hurts but it is 100% natural and is hardly what i meant when i said that we have a natural right to pursue whats makes us happy unless it hurts others. I meant like stealing, rape, murder assault adultery and so on.
