AYN RAND's message to the GOP CANDIDATES
BackEven more relevant than when she said it in 1961. Substitute "Islamists" for "Communists"
Hopefully, we will see in our lifetimes a realignment of the GOP in favor of reason and individual rights and away from faith and tradition. Religion is a private matter.
With the respective candidacies of Giuliani and Huckabee the split has become even more glaring: the pro-freedom Giuliani (pro-choice, socially liberal, capitalist, anti-regulation- who respects profit and achievement) vs the christian socialist Huckabee (pro-tradition, anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-reason, anti-capitalist, pro-regulation altruist)
Interestingly, in Rand's 1957 novel Atlas Shrugged (celebrating 50 years in publication) the President is the folksy "Mr. Thompson" - a deal-making insincere lobbyist type who believes anyone's open to a deal. Interesting coincidence that we have Fred Thompson this year, huh?

Are you fully aware of the definition of a theocracy? Our nation and it's people wouldn't stand for such a thing. And if you are about to argue that the current issue of abortion is a valid representation of a theocratic leaning government, there are many who oppose it not on a religious standpoint but on the belief that it's murder (note:I have not stated this is MY stance). Not trying to be confrontational, just would like a perspective, and a rebuttal to see where you are coming from.

I'd say they are socialists for Israel

The republican party has been Hijacked. Obama is the lesser of two evils. At least he opposes the patriot act and other violations of basic civil rights. Mccain became republican main line. Someone who believes in Tradition and not American Ideals. He was supposed to be different. My country is going to be destroyed by both parties, still we must consider the lesser of two evils.

Re: MissIsabella8466's insipid observations.
In particular: "The 1960's group who founded Galt's Gulch in Colorado failed" - because it didn't have The Motor.
We now do: and that makes all the difference $!O
And I mean it.

America is Secular governed by a Constitution. Roots in freedom, property, capitalism are can be better discovered through Locke, Paine ....
Rand's Utopian belief system, without substance, is best served in comic books, Bioshock, etc.
The 1960's group who founded Galt's Gulch in Colorado failed.
Rand did not have a working knowledge of science, history, psychology, anthropology, or a basid curiosity.
Screenwriter, author, she served her purpose during the modernism period.

The Religious Right is a relatively new concept. Before about 1984, nobody had heard that term. Read "What's the Matter with Kansas" by Thomas Frank to find out how, one summer, the Republican Party was hijacked by a regressive religious kabal that persists into the present.

All faith is by definition "blind". You are misusing the word in the same way people do so with "unique" (truly unique).

A true Republican would be an atheist. It is a contradiction to espouse individualism while surrendering to a theoretical mystical being.
Religion is now undermining the Republican party. History is littered with the debris of empires who elevate religion above rationality.

Your view again supports evidence that the Republican party has been hijacked by...NEOCON ATHEISTS. The first Republican president, Lincoln, was a Christian and he fought the Civil War based partly on Christian principles. The NEOCONS are eager to again enslave Americans to their fascist causes and they hold the Christian right hostage with the hope of making abortion illegal. Christ, himself, did NOT work to change government but to change...SOULS. Today's Evangelicals are on the wrong path.

i like her. i dissagree on just about everything she says, but she is coherent. she brilliantly points out that in a pure capitalist society there is no room for religions ethos.
