But +1 on preferring the earlier version. The "Derek and the Dominos" Layla wasn't a "prosaic reflection"-- it was more a screaming wail about a (then recent and also very public)painful life experience for Eric.

"Soaring passion" was a very good way to word it...

The later version (to me)sounds sort of lobotomized--
