Hoffman and Daniel day lewis are the best actors since Marlon Brando. I love their work. Phenomenal. Just phenomenal.

Both are great, but there's one particular era you're skipping over, and that's those actors in the sixties immediately influenced by Brando and the method school of acting he adopted, actors such as, well, the icons of course, Pacino, Hoffman, DeNiro and Nicholson to name but a few.

I didnt really skip them, i just take them for granted. But youre right, the actors you mention are indeed the pioneers and perfectionists of method acting and acting in general. DeNiros contribution to films such as taxi driver, deer hunter, raging bull, goodfellas and godfather2 is truly magnificant. My all time favorite Nicholson flick is still One flew over a coockoos nest, but naturally, theres many more, too numerous to mention. What are your thoughts on There Will Be Blood and NCFOM?

Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greats, but I find Philip to be one of the most (if not the most) overrated actors working.
obliviouspet (November 30, 2008 at 6:55 am)
Well, the only thing i find overrated about him are his critics. Because they gave him god-status eversince *Capote*, which was an overrated movie in general. Though as an actor, he is absolutely one of the best out there. If you have seen his acting in Happiness (1997), Before the devil knows youre dead, The 25th hour, etc, i honestly dont know what hes doing wrong. The only problem with him is hes become infamous as a pervert in his movies, and i think its his most realistic roles.

To each his/her own...I also wanted to add there is something inherently unappealing about Philip physically, all the way back to "Scent of a Woman"(which he spent the duration unable to close his mouth)

"Boogie Nights" "Along Came Polly"...I thought his Capote performance was one note & Ledger should of won. "Before the Devil Knows Your Dead" & "The Savages" were the same performance.

I meant to include that I've seen all of Philip's performances (not just those mentioned above)
