To those who believe higher tax rates can "stick it to those who are wealty"...Here's something to think about. Those with wealth and means have the income and resources to hire lawyers, accountant etc. to hide their income using loopholes in the current tax system Can the working man or woman do that? No they must pay whatever the government requires or else face prison. Who is really being hurt by higher taxes? Abolish the IRS and let working people keep what we earn.

Just curious, can anyone name a country that has taxed and spent itself into prosperity? Anyone? Anyone? When taxes go down charitable contributions increase. When taxes rise charitable contributions decrease. That being said how can higher tax rates really help those who need assistance? One more word on charities. They are not meant as a means of permanent support for anyone. They are designed to offer assistance when people fall on hard times and need temporary help.

It would be great if all nations were led by Libertarians.

It would be a much more peaceful, prosperous, freer and happier world.

I have a strange idea. I am a libertarian-leaning conservative but have noticed that the party itself is rather weak. Something else I have noticed is that the Constitution Party, which is almost identical to libertarianism political theory, is even weaker. Would it not make sense to combine the two parties? If you look at the members in each they all seem to agree on the fundamental issues facing us today, and I don't think it would be a bad idea to converge to make a stronger party.

I thought the same thing... I don't know though. It might not be permanent, simply because some libertarians (such as my father) do not like conservatives.

A big problem I see is that possibly people in the Constitution Party might not want amendments to the Constitution even though amending it IS Consitutional, whereas libertarians would be more likely to want an amendment if they saw it as needed for the benefit of extra freedom.

"We've had deregulation and free-market policies for the Big Oil industries for decades now. "

De-Regulation compared to what? Soviet Russia maybe.

The Oil industry is the most heavily regulated in the states.

Regulation is the only thing that allows a Cartel to keep out competition.

It also helps immensly to have Senators on your pay roll that are willing to regulate out any competition.

Regulation is a monopoly's best friend.

And don't even get me started on how far from a free market we are.

Bailouts for Freddie Mae and Fannie Mac with stolen taxpayer money?

We're only making the bubble bigger, if these two companies can't succeed on their own, then they NEED TO FAIL.

The Market was trying to get rid of weakness, and we've only forced that weakness back into the economy.
