While there are many semetic peoples, the term was co-opted by 1873 German journalist Wilhelm Marr and used to denote anti-Jewish sentiment.

"Without struggle there is no progress" Fredric Douglass.

young politician facing double edged but legitimate question...struggle.

President-Elect Barack Obama...progress.

lest we forget anti-Catholic, anti-Semitic pastor John Hagee endorsed McCain. Is that his fault ...no.

i am very proud that white america has so readily embraced obama as our first president-elect of color. could black america never embrace a president with similar policies if he were not a person of color? that is the question?

I guess if you did a word by word reading you can't find anything particularly racist but its the tone of his sermons and the underlying character of the preacher that makes people think he is a racist.

07091102:

You are correct. The term "anti-Semitic" is an over-used and abused term that many attribute SOLELY to the Jews. However, they are but one group of people who are actually Semitic.

This term actually applies to all of the people living in the region of the world known as "the Middle East"....and yes..... It also includes Christians and Muslims.

So, a BETTER question would be: Who ISN'T Semitic??

For the record: Min. Farrakhan NEVER stated that "....Judaism is/was a 'gutter religion'". This accusation has been dragged out for years, despite the fact that it's a documented AND proven LIE!!

This was only re-introduced here to attempt to bring a division between then Democratic candidate Barack Obama and Min. Farrakhan.
