Poor Whites - South Africa

Back

June 2006
Since the end of apartheid, thousands of white South Africans have been forced into poverty. They blame the government's positive discrimination policies, which favour black employees.

Twelve years ago, Afrikaners like Betsie Dreyer lived a privileged and cocooned life. Now, many are dependent on charity handouts. "We are fighting all the time to survive." The government is determined to see the workforce appropriately reflect the population. It gives black people priority in employment, sets 'black quotas' for businesses and favours companies owned by black people. But critics accuse the government of neglecting its responsibility to white citizens. As union rep Kallie Kriel states: "It's ironic that a government that fought racial laws is now doing exactly the same thing."

i do agree....but that same concept can apply to blacks who are well off too...My point is that they are no different than the other 80-90 percent blacks that face poverty. People should feel sorry for them because they are poor and not because of their skin color.

and regards to paying for social unjustices- i personally think it is rubbish to pay people who were not even around at the time of injustice, but they still get paid because they have the blood in their veins. and if they are affected then so am i because my uncle faught the japanese and was tortured, so i want an extra $80 p/w in my account from them then thanks.

you will agree this cant go on forever, but to your comment about your friends, there is a certain irony with the privilaged ones in society that they have no problem with seperatism and the like, why??? because thier world is fine- they have money they mix with the cream and have no contact whatsoever what is really going on with the rest of society.

Social injustices against native americans happened 200 years ago and they are receiving reparations. And it's not just them.

Umm Reparations are still being paid for past social injustices. Australia is paying reparations to aborigines. America to Native Americans. Germans to Jews. Austrians receive paychecks for having kids. Native Hawaiians get special privileges as well. So yeah reparations are still happening. Think about that!

Animosity? Surely you can't say that when people like Charlize Theron praising people like Nelson Mandela. Whether there is animosity or not, that stupid Interviewer shouldn't act as if they are entitled to special treatment just because they are white. How come she isn't showing the other 80-90 percent of the poor black community. It's all about survival of the fittest. Most of my White South African friends are extremely successful and I've never heard them make race an issue.

Umm Australia is not the only country paying reparations because of past social injustices. We Americans have to pay the same thing to Native Americans. And I'm guessing Germans have to pay reparations to Jews too. And posting one aboriginal comment doesn't mean crap. I can post dozens of comments from White Supremacists that wouldn't mean crap. Just because one White person does something stupid doesn't mean we whites are all racist.

why r white in africa?y cant they go back to their own country?

Admirable sentiment but not realistic. Why? Because everyone on this planet will spend some part of their lives apologising or making reparations. I am not responsible for the acts of another and no one is responsible for mine. I refuse to live with guilt because of what someone else did. What are you feeling guilty about that you think this way?
