He's still such a funny guy.

I didn't say you weren't entitled to an opinion. You are perfectly entitled to think this is shit.
Neither did I say all art was good.
Neither am I interested in telling why I do/don't like this, as I don't have to justify my opinion just as you don't yours.
Neither am I championing the state of the modern art world.
You are picking fights that aren't there.
I was simply challenging the fact that you feel you have the right to say that something is or isn't art.

I think you toning your opinion down somewhat, your logic is fuzzy at best not to mention how you have contradicted yourself! Shame on you you compromised! There is modern art which is valid! But too what degree? If you picked dog shit up off the street and exhibited it would it be art! No it would be a cheap stunt! I could look at the work of Salvador Dali all day long, a man who masturbated in the corner of his work instead of signing it, I have no problem grasping the concepts 1

??? Where have I contradicted myself? All I said was that you had no right to say this wasn't art - look back at the post!
Yes I agree - Salvador Dali was a genius. Yes I agree - dog shit art such as Martin Creed's work is also 'in my opinion' more than a bit ridiculous, and serves only to alienate most people from modern art.
I accept however that I have no right to say that it isn't art. Even if I do think it's dog shit!

Well if you have no right having an opinion on "what is art what isn't" why are you expressing one?
stephvsilk (September 22, 2008 at 3:34 am)
I haven't. It is art. It is expression. Just in my opinion it's shit!

of which you write but anything taken to the utter extreme is stupidity, there must always be craftsmanship involved in art, otherwise it has no real worth, mentally or aesthetically, all the best now be sure and tell your no doubt idiotic, ignorant cock of a art teacher what I have written, rather than spouting the everything is as relevant as everything else, mantra you "artists" are so fond of! 2
stephvsilk (September 22, 2008 at 3:32 am)
That is your opinion. I'd like to see you try and tell Jackson Pollock that he had no craftmanship! We will be here forever if I attempt to educate you on non-subjective art, as you are clearly not interested enough to listen for a start.
Music is your thing - that's cool. Don't claim to have a definitive view on art.
And again, no I'm not saying everything is as relevant... just that your opinion in irrelevant, and I thought I'd let you know. I'm not even telling you you're wrong!

In fact. I will even add that I am not overly fond of this exhibition of Squire's work. His latest stuff is a lot better - check out 'New Work' on his website.
My argument wasn't about your opinion of the work. It was solely with you announcing thart it wasn't art just because you didn't like it.
Thanks for disagreeing with me though. I like to be challenged by someone who can say more than LOL, LMAO, blah, blah, blah...

What makes you think I know nothing about art history?? What makes you think I am unable to provide any valid arguments?? I'm just not all that interested in arguing with you to be honest!
