Without question the most dynamic dance sequences in any one film up til that time,and no wonder it swept The Oscars that year(even though two of the leads,Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer)didn't do thier own singing. But who cares? The dancing,from the phenominal opening straight through is smashing. I was in The Licoln Center revival 30 years ago

Few people realize that Rita Merino (Anita) is the only actress to win all 4 major entertainment awards: Tony/Emmy/Grammy/Oscar Wow!

Actually, Helen Hayes won all four awards by 1976, one year before Rita Moreno did. Audrey Hepburn has also won all four.

I LOVE this scene!
And I love Anita's dress. It's just sheer perfection for her and the scene. I always wanted one like it. xD
