Why not? My point is that Patton's music isn't just one or two well written sections, with a bunch of filler in between - everything has it's place. He's always aware of dynamics, and uses everything in the musical toolbox - stacato, marcato, etc.

A lot of popular music simply has a strong intro to make a first impression, then allows everything to be pretty generic. Which is fine, if you want to write in that style, but when the entire song is written musically... that creates timelessness.
