Governor Tommy Thompson gets mad at me.

Upon watching the tape, I can BARELY hear him say "it's good" when I ask the second time, under his breath and as he was turning away from me.

I didn't even hear it at the time in person, let alone think the camera picked it up.

Your mistake is that you don't mention your credentials. You start by blurting out questions, which means you must be any guy. This time you have credentials!

Instead of shouting out "What do you think about the YouTube debate?," start by "Governor Thompson, James Kotecki from The Politico, what do you think about the YouTube debates?" You probably won't get an answer but you'll get his attention and a second shot.

You missed your opportunity to ask a follow-up question. You should have asked him what he thought was great about the debate. It's rare for a journalist to catch a politician in an aggrivated or emotional condition. You should have grilled him with follow-up.
