Scott Walker - 30th Century Man (trailer)

Back

"Scott Walker: 30 Century Man" is a long-overdue look at one of the most influential and enigmatic figures in rock history. The film will explore his music and career, from his early days as a jobbing bass player on the Sunset Strip, to mega-stardom in Britain's swinging 60's pop scene as lead singer of The Walker Brothers, to his evolution into one of the most astonishing soundmakers of the last few decades.

He's 63 years old and is about to release his first album in over 10 years, "The Drift" on 4AD on June 20th (although the album is now available on iTunes). The film will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the album as well as interviews with friends, collaborators, and fans including, among others:

David Bowie, Radiohead, Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Brian Eno, Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy), Marc Almond, Alison Goldfrapp, Sting, Dot Allison, Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins), Richard Hawley, Rob Ellis, Johnny Marr, Gavin Friday, Lulu, Peter Olliff, Angela Morley, Ute Lemper, Ed Bicknell, Evan Parker, Benjamin Biolay, Hector Zazou, Mo Foster, Phil Sheppard, Pete Walsh, and more.

Directed by Stephen Kijak, who brought you the delightfully deranged documentary CINEMANIA (a profile of 5 of NYC's most manic film buffs), this is a different form of obsession altogether. Inspiring god-like devotion from fans, Scott Walker's has a cult that has grown considerably since his 1995 release "Tilt", a dark and difficult masterwork. His new album takes that sound further than anyone could have imagined...

As a teenager I loved Scott Walker with the Walker Brothers and always wondered what happened to him. His voice is still as beautiful as it was 40 years ago. I saw this doco last week and have been haunted by his voice and the quality of his work - a genius ahead of his time. I believe he will be truly appreciated and legendary 100 years from now, a real 30th century man. Love you Scott xxx

I first listened to scott walker after seeing no country for old men fairly recently, and I immediately thought that if anton chigurgh made music it would sound like this. anyways nothing like finding a new musician you like...

fasciating. thanks.
not sure I want the artists I most admire to become "recognised". when the trendy brigade start liking something it's time to pack up and move home.

that stuff in the studio is someone with too much time, too much money and someone who takes himself and pop music far far too seriously. if he'd worked a proper day in his life maybe he'd be too tired to have bad dreams.

Come on, don`t be so negative. You should try punching some pork. It`s super duper.

How can someone in the US see this movie?
Welloiledcog (June 20, 2008 at 6:57 pm)
Because asking self-explanatory questions deserves no reply.

But a question's status as self-explanatory is surely subjective to each individual, no?
