my best story is this. about 13 years ago, i had a pt d.t'ing. he kept telling me there were bugs everywhere. i kept giving him ativan every time he told me that. and i charted, pt agitated and hallucinating, and the prn ativan. finally the poor guy went to sleep. at about 1445, 15 min b/f report, i looked up at the light fixture. the entire thing was covered with ladybugs. oops.

Perhaps you can help me.I am a recovering alcoholic sober two years.I went through DT's several times.I weathered it out myself a few times but when I went to hospital-librium did nothing for me but this one time i was given a IV with a weird yellowy liquid that induced sleep and by the time I woke up I was out of the woods. What's that called-it's the bizz-so why the restraints?

LOL. I agree....I do advocate, but I have to be choosey with how I say it. There was a time that I refused to do an in and out cath on someone that had a raging UTI. We were doing the I&O cath q6h. I reported the UTI 24 hours prior. When I came back to shift the next day, they were still doing it. I refused. Called the doc at 5am and told him why I thought it wasn't a good idea. Since the pt had a neurogenic bladder, we placed in indwelling instead...these docs don't think sometimes.

i don't tend to be choosy. gets me in a lot of trouble. i ended up telling the nsg director to 'kiss the left side of my ass'. luckily, that was only a flex job, i had a full time somewhere else. and the sad part is, i would do it again. we have a lot of residents where i work, most are ok, but some, i wonder what cereal box they got their license out of.
