I was attacked by the New York Police Department, who broke my camera AND stole it... as well as my footage.

For an example of good cop behavior check out this video from the 4th annaul Iraq War Protest in LA. You will see a squad of bike and foot cops ORDERED to march into the center of a permitted anti war demonstration during a punk concert. They create a line seperating the crowd. Tensions mount (no shit). Finally a cop with some authority on the ground say's "Why are we doing this?" Since none of the ranking officers on the ground have any idea why they were ordered into the crowd... they leave. That's a good cop. The one that says "why are we doing this" when ordered to do fucked up shit.

So yeah I agree with you, they should not of taken your camera; but what did you do to follow up on it? Did you file a formal complaint with the police department? I know not totally impartial, but at least the matter will be investigated. If so what is the status of it and if you did not complain why are you are crying about it now, because it will just continue to happen if something is not done about it.

isnt the video u have here enough to take those cops to court, it seems pretty clear to me they stole it, i think a judge would see the same

You'd think so... but the potential dollar amount was not sufficient to attract a lawyer... check the video response CCRB report to see what (may) have happened.
