Using proposition 8 as an illustrative point of populism isn't valid. Marriage is a right that should be given to everyone, not just the 80 - 90% of the heterosexual ones. It (the country) was founded so that the majority couldn't take away the rights of the majority. Just as with the black civil rights movement, if left up to a vote, it would've been defeated too.

Nien, thats German for no, Germany has grown quite a bit in the last 15 years, they are becoming one of the most advanced and rich nations in the world.

One of the more interesting view points is that really(at least in federal gov) that the rich are in charge, and if you think about it, they are. You can only support a campaign if you have the money, and you must be supported by a political party which are endorsed by the large companies for which the party will benefit for. Think about it. Research who endorses what party and who makes money when certain decisions are made. Who does the country really represent?

I know, which is why I said in my earlier comment "or should be in a non-messed-up voting system where you can win despite having less people vote for you than your opponent..."
Bush was just a direct consequence of having a bad election system... And yes, during those years the things the government stood for and the things most people stood for did not coincide. So I guess it's not just dictatorships where that happens, my bad.

No the rulers do not get voted by majority, That is the issue revolving the electoral college, it is not necessarily majority rule. This election was majority, but Bush lost popular vote (majority). in the U.S. one could also argue we are a Plutocracy not a republic(we not a democracy in any way)
That was a common misconception that majority rules.

Thank you sir! You're one of the first people who who hasnt agreed with me not call me a fag, queer, mother f'er, etc... Kudos to that!

even if i don't agree with your political viewpoint, kudos for your style of discussion

Well the only case in which the two things may not coincide is in a dictatorship. This is not the situation in the US is it? The "rulers" get elected, by the majority... or should be in a non-messed-up voting system where you can win despite having less people vote for you than your opponent...
And presumably you elect people who represent the values that you want your country to stand for.
