Whoopi nailed it. We took the word and disempowered it. Period. The only thing Whoopi doesn't get is that it's not possible for Hasselbeck to understand what Whoopi is talking about, so it's futile to try and explain it to her. Out of Liz's realm of understanding. Not her fault, just a fact.

I understand were E.H. is coming from because yes, we do want to eliminate things in this country that divides us as Americans, however when it comes to race, esp. dealing with African-Americans, there are just some differences and lines that can not be crossed or dissolved. The N-word,as Whoopi stated was taken by blacks to take control of the hatred given by the word Nigg*r. The word N*gga, what is used,is not the same word. However, due to the association, blacks can say only we can use it.

Whoopi is right. So is Elisabeth, but Whoopi is more right.

Both Whoopi and Elisabeth are right in their own way! I can understand Whoopi's point about her family growing up using the word 'Nigger' which is ok But at the same time Elisabeth is right too You cannot expect everybody to be so obedient the whites or any other Non black that they won't say that word to you if they hear u use it urself! The singers these days use it all the time as a way to lessen the impact of the word i dont know but it wont take away its impact.

the n word is a word that demeans anyone and everyone that uses it for when a black person uses it it is just as bad as when a white person uses it but the deffernce is white people use it with hate and african americans use it with love we as white people cannot use it at all

The word N---er describes anyone that carry a heavy load on his or hers back. A white person can be called the word or a black person if they are carrying a heavy load upon their back. To my black brother & sisters, yes this word has been use to label those of our color skin, but it does not depict who we are or what we are all about unless we allow it to. Because of the history that is attached to the word yes it makes it difficult to argue the fact, but we have the power to change history.

The white chick should have just yelled out 'NIGGER', and see what they did. This is the U.S., if you are to weak to have freedom of speach and let other people have it as well, go to a country that would put you in jail for words they might not like.
