Is the age of cheap oil about to come to an end? According to many experts, we are about to reach the point of "peak oil" -- the level at which supply can no longer keep up with demand. This, say the doomsayers, could send economies spinning into turmoil and up-end our comfortable, urban lifestyles. But others claim predictions like this are simply scaremongering. They believe supply will match demand for decades to come. So who's telling the truth? 'Peak Oil' investigates.

War. War never changes.

Peak oil will be resolved politically by global thermonuclear war.

A mercy suicide.

Well, let's see - aerodynamically, most U.S. autos are awful - we should be driving machines with .2 drag coefficient. At 60 MPH. that translates to 16 HP needed (compared to .45 drag coef. which is roughly 53 HP @ 60 MPH for a typical SUV). Using high-compression engines, true hybrids with lithium-Iron phosphate batteries & carbon nanotube supercapacitors, refined aerodynamics - we should be able to achieve 120 MPG, supplemented w/solar-electric. We need government supported market forces.

anyone have an idea why the opec nations are not making the investments necessary to increase prod. capacity? I hear it was due to a low oil price in the 90s and early 2Ks. I dont buy it, the increase in the price of oil has been expected by all (thus justifying the invetment that was never made). My belief is that the OPEC nations are running out quicker than they let on. They have much fewer reserves than they report as their production quotas are limited based on their stated reserves.

it will be a very long time before we peak oil i Know i'm still pumping wells that have been pumping since the 50's the reason oil is so high is becouse of a rich mans greed

So youre just going to dismiss what all these geologists, econimists and even oil ministers have been saying because of your own personal experience? Science isnt based on anecdotal stories from individuals. Search youtube for a documentary called "understanding peak oil" and watch the 8 parts. Please let me know why they are wrong.

And at what percent are your wells producing compared to the 50's? It's not a matter of not getting any oil, its a matter of getting less and less.
oney135 (October 12, 2008 at 5:20 pm)
records have shown that the production in my wells from the 50's have went up i have no dought that we will hit peak i just think it will be a long time
