20% renewable energy by 2020

Back

Raising the share of renewable energy from 8.5% to 20% in the overall energy consumption is a necessary contribution to the global fight against climate change and towards better control over our energy dependence. The various uses of renewable energy are examined: electricity through wind and hydraulic energies; electricity or heat through geothermal and solar energies; electricity, heat, and biofuel coming from biomass. The EU is a world leader in the use and deployment of technologies that exploit renewable energy sources, providing over 350.000 jobs and an annual turn-over of € 30 billion.

insane. only 20%? and the guy says it's ambitious? that's almost like propaganda against renewables.
why can't we set up solar panel fields, and link electric networks between countries? that would be litterally free energy, (once the construction cost is paid back). why not invest in that? cover up deserts with solar panels.
I think the only time when ppl are going to move to renewables is when the oil gets too expensive and that'S soon. renewables will soon be competitive on the market.

lol I think you are right. However canada has shown far less effort.

Demand for energy will be 20% more than it is now, so its like pissing against the wind. The only thing we can try is reduce consumption by 20%

For my point of view E.E, dont give the seriously support for research and development in renewable energy. Too few jobs, too few research, too few implementation of renewable energy projects at most Countrys of E.E.
And the most negative that n is consider nuclear energy is consider clean! ... E.E. must change politics because planet and economy need it. the party is over.

the problem is even if we have enough energy to power all the buildings in the world, small energy consumptive items like cars would still have to use fossil or bio fuels. hydrogen power is inefficient, bio fuels can lead to further environmental degradation, and the multitude of battery patents held by GM, Exxon, and energy companies have crippled the future of the electric car.

Alternatives to existing tech appears constantly based on completely different elements and structures. Companies that hold patents other than energy companies have no direct interest in oil. What energy companies do have only will slow down the process.

I believe that substituting one fuel for another in small vehicles is a mistake unless taken as a temporary measure.

Of course in some vehicles use of fuels is unavoidable, eg trains, aerospace, ships.

Also NiMH patent is done in 2015.

This really helped me in my science project

Did you honestly say we don't stand a chance? We've just been giving you guys a headstart haha

using petroleum or oil must go.. after 100 years or so its old school

as we stopped using coal that power our steam engine trains its time to move on!
